Nay Htun is currently Professor of Environmental Sustainability, Stony Brook Southampton, State University of New York. He is a Fellow and Visiting Professor, Imperial College London; Visiting Professor and Senior Advisor, Lund University, Sweden, Visiting Professor and Member of the International Board of Advisors, Chulabhorn Research Institute, Bangkok, Thailand; Honorary Professor, Tongji University, Shanghai, China.
 
He was formerly with UNDP and UNEP where he held the rank of UN Assistant Secretary General at both organizations. At UNDP he was in charge of the Asia Pacific Bureau with 24 Country Offices and at UNEP he was Regional Director for Asia Pacific and Deputy Executive Director. He was seconded to the UNCED Secretariat as the Programme Director supervising the drafting of Agenda 21, generally referred to as the blue print for sustainable development and help organized the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
 
He is a Board Member of a number of not-for-profit research institutions including the International Vaccine Institute: the International Research Institute for Climate and Society, Columbia University, New York.; the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies, Hayama, Japan. Previously he served as a Board Member of a number of non profit organizations, including the High level China Council for International Cooperation in Environment and Development; Beijing China, and the Stockholm Environment Institute. He received his PhD degree in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College London.
