Park Sang-Dai, Ph.D. Special Advisor to Director General

Park Sang-Dai, Ph.D.,
Special Advisor to Director General of the IVI is Professor Emeritus of Molecular Biology at Seoul National University (SNU), a Member of the National Academy of Sciences, Republic of Korea, and current Chairman of the Korea Advanced Nano Fab Center. He is also serving as Executive Director and Vice President of the Korea Support Committee for the IVI. Prof. Park initiated the effort to host the IVI in Korea as Secretary General of the Korea Organizing Committee from 1993-1995 and held responsibility as Chairman of the SNU Planning and Support Committee for IVI from 1995-1999. He established Korean Society for Molecular biology and served as President. He also had responsibility to operate genetic engineering research grant from 1985-1997. Prof. Park held positions as Dean of Research Affairs, and Director of the Institute for Molecular Biology & Genetics at SNU. He is a graduate of SNU and received Ph.D. from St. John's University. He was honored to receive the First Korea Science Award(1987), the Korea National Academy of Sciences Award(1998), National Green Medal(2002) and Korea Academy of Science & Technology Award(2007). In addition to being a Member of the Presidential Council for Science and Technology, Prof. Park had the distinction of being elected as a Fellow of the Third World Academy of Sciences in 2006. He has published over 230 papers in peer-reviewed journals on genomic instability and regulation of DNA repair gene expression.

Ms. Joanne Lee, M.A.
Senior Advisor for Fund Raising & Comminication to the Director General

Ms. Joanne Lee, M.A., joined IVI in 2006 as a Senior Advisor for Communication and Fundraising. She also serves as the Executive Committee Chair of Korea Support Committee for IVI. Joanne is a widely known celebrity in Korea as a pioneering business entrepreneur, best selling author and a strong advocate of globalization, gender equality and the environment. She founded Star Communications, Inc. which pioneered the business of communications consulting and events marketing for multinational companies and governments, earning the accolade of "Korea's First Lady in PR" from the international press. She was the first president of Burson-Marsteller Korea and Senior VP of 1400-member American Chamber of Commerce in Korea. She also served as the Chairman of the Board of "Women's News", the feminist weekly newspaper founded in 1988 by public stock offering for the purpose of advancing womenĄŻs status in Korea. She is the author of 4 books. Her first autobiography "Love at 23, Success at 49" became a runaway bestseller of more than a million copies. Joanne has BA in English literature from Sogang University and MA in Psychology from IIT (Illinois Institute of Technology). |

Ms. Joy (Mi-Hyang) Sohn
Fund Raising Head

Ms. Joy(Mi-Hyang)
Sohn has joined the Institute as Fund Raising
Head as of November 01, 2003. She majored in Pedagogy
at Dongguk University and received her BA degree in 1991.
She completed the MA degree majoring in American Novel
at the English language and literature dept. at the same
Univ. She also majored in Advertising & Public Relations(Marketing
PR) at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and finished
her M.A. degree course in 2000. Before she joined IVI,
she worked as PR/Resource Development (senior fundraiser
including Jimmy Carter Work Project 2001) manager of Habitat
for Humanity Korea from 2001 and organized many special
events as a part of public awareness campaign and raised
money under the partnership with many companies. She also
worked for SangAm Grey Communication agency as PR assistant
manager and was assigned to creative work such as advertising,
media planning and media mix of clients. Based on her
prior work experience, Joy will deal with raising money
and negotiating with sponsor companies required by the
Institute in Korea. She is happy to be a member of IVI
and wants to raise the awareness of IVI. She says, "Let's
save children's lives with your own 1 dollar!" She
wishes to develop her career and contribute to realizing
the mission of the Institute. Let's welcome her on board. |

Tae Kyung Byun, M.A.
Public Awareness / Advocacy Officer
|
|
Mr. Tae Kyung
Byun, M.A., joined the Institute as Public
Awareness/Advocacy Officer in July 2002. He prepares and
implements a public awareness strategy for the Institute,
writes press reports, and organizes press conferences
and TV interviews. Before joining the IVI, Mr. Byun worked
with The Korea Herald, an English newspaper, as a reporter
for the national desk and the special feature team for
four years.
A Korean citizen, Mr. Byun also worked with the Ministry
of Finance and Economy, and its affiliate Korea Institute
for International Economic Policy as an intern in 1998.
Earlier, he served as an administrative officer for international
cooperation at the Korea Ocean Research and Development
Institute, a government-run institution, for one year.
Mr. Byun acquired a Master's degree in International
Area Studies from the Graduate School of International
Area Studies at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies,
majoring in the North American economy, in 1999. A graduate
of Dong-A University, he has keen interest in international
affairs, and likes all different sports, including swimming,
soccer, mountain climbing and jogging.

Sandra Wilcox, M.P.H.
Senior Advisor to DG for Communication and Development

Sandra Wilcox, M.P.H., joined IVI in December 2006 as consultant for communications and International Relations. She is now Senior Advisor to the Director and the manager of the Communications and Development Unit. She comes to IVI after working for 10 years as an international Public Health and Communications consultant in the areas of child survival, reproductive health, youth programming, organizational development and community mobilization. Her work includes evaluating, planning, training and writing about programs for USAID and UN funded programs in Latin America, Asia and Africa. Previous to her consulting work, Sandra worked for USAID and Management Sciences for Health in Bolivia helping the government build the first national reproductive health program in the country. During her career, Sandra has also worked with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, National Institutes of Health, the Indian Health Service and the Minnesota State Health Department. She was a Peace Corps volunteer in Ecuador, South America and during high school she volunteered on immunization projects in Central America. She has a Masters of Public Health degree from the University of California at Los Angeles.

Goan Yeoun Moon
Senior Administrative Manager

Goan Yeoun Moon, M.B.A., graduated from Sogang University and her previous employer was Pakistan Embassy in Seoul. Now she is working for IVI Director General's office directly assisting Director General. She gives an overall coordination and management of the Office of the Director as a Sr. Administrative Manager.

Kyung Hee Oh, B.A.

Kyung Hee Oh, B.A., joined the institute as Senior Administrative Assistant as of March 2, 2007. She majored in Library Science at Duksung women's University, Seoul and received her Bachelor's degree from the school in 1989. She worked as an Administrative Assistant at the International Vaccine Institute for 4 years from 1995 to 2000 and as a Chief Secretary for Chairman at Korea Research Council of Fundamental Science and Technology for 3 years from 2004 to January 2007. She will provide administrative support for IVI Korea Support Committee and also support for Special Advisor to the Director General.

Mi-kyung(Kelly) Seo, M.B.A., graduated from the Graduate Institute of Peace Studies and completed MBA there. Prior to joining IVI, She worked for IMC Group as a HR manager in charge of industrial relations and Human Resources management. After this, She joined the ILO, Geneva, and worked at MIGRANT program, conducting research on APEC regionsĄŻ migration trends and analysis. At IVI, She is working for Communications and Development unit in Director General's office as Administrative Assistant.

Jung Jin Lee, AICPA., joined IVI in Jan. 2008 as an Internal Auditor. Her previous employer prior to IVI was Franklin Templeton Investment Trust management Co., Ltd. and she was working as an Internal Auditor for 2 years. Currently she is performing operational reviews and assesses the efficiency and effectiveness of operational and financial controls. She gives recommendation and implementation proper policies and procedures to mitigate business risks.

Anna Choi, B.A., degree from AJOU University majored in English Literature / International Trade. She has been working for boosting and improving IVI public awareness nationally and internationally in many ways. Also, she has worked on planning and formatting contents of various promotional materials of IVI.
